How to dictate on Windows with Voktik.

Last checked 1st October 2026

To dictate on Windows with Voktik, click where you want the words, hold Ctrl+Win, say what you want to write, and let go. Clean, punctuated text lands where your cursor is: an email, a chat, a document or an AI prompt. The ums and ers come out, and numbers and dates are written properly.

This guide covers setting Voktik up, your first dictation, and the keys worth knowing.

The short answer

  1. Click in any text box.
  2. Hold Ctrl+Win and talk.
  3. Let go. Your words appear where the cursor is.

For something longer, press Ctrl+Win+Space once and talk with your hands free. Press it again to finish.

Set Voktik up

Setup takes a few minutes and walks you through each step:

  1. Sign in. Voktik needs a free account to dictate. Select Continue with Google.
  2. Your apps. Tell it what you dictate into most: email, messages, work chat, AI tools, coding, social posts, selling online or documents.
  3. Language. Pick the language you speak, or let Voktik detect it.
  4. Microphone. Say something. When Voktik shows Hearing you., your microphone works. A laptop's built-in microphone is fine.
  5. Try it. Dictate a sentence into the practice box.
  6. Done. Tick Start Voktik when Windows starts if you want it ready every morning.

After that, Voktik waits in the system tray, by the clock. You don't need its window open to dictate.

Your first dictation

  1. Open an email, a chat or a document and click where you want to type.
  2. Hold Ctrl+Win. The Voktik bar appears at the bottom of the screen while it listens.
  3. Say a sentence or two, as you would to a person.
  4. Let go. The text arrives a moment later.

Voktik writes everything once you let go, not word by word as you speak. That's what lets it take out the fillers and put the punctuation in the right places.

What Voktik does to your words

  • Takes out fillers such as um, er and you know.
  • Adds punctuation: full stops, commas, question marks and capitals.
  • Writes numbers and dates properly: one to nine in words when they count things, figures for 10 and over, money and times.
  • Matches the app, if you want it to. Styles make an email read like an email and a chat stay relaxed. Some styles, such as Professional email and AI prompt, are Pro.

To get exactly the words you said, switch Clean-up off on Voktik's Home page.

Windows' own voice typing

Windows has voice typing built in: press Windows key + H. It adds punctuation. Voktik also takes out the ums and ers, and can give each app its own style.

FAQ

Is Voktik free?

Yes, for 2,000 words a week, which come back every Monday. Pro removes the weekly limit and adds the Pro styles and features, for £14.99 a month or £129.99 a year.

Which apps does it work in?

Any app you type in: email, chat, documents, browsers and AI tools. The exceptions are windows running as administrator, such as Task Manager, which Windows locks against other apps: Voktik's key doesn't work there, and the bar says so. And it never types into password boxes; it copies the text instead.

Does it work offline?

No. Voktik needs the internet. A dictation made without a connection is kept on your PC with Retry.

Does it show words as I speak?

No. The text arrives when you let go of the key, all at once and tidied.

Is my voice kept?

Your voice is never kept by us or our speech service, and never used to train AI. Unsent dictations stay encrypted on your PC until they're sent.
