Security and privacy.
Private: your voice is never kept, and never used to train AI.
Voktik needs the internet to turn your speech into text, so here is exactly what happens to it, what stays on your PC, and how your account is kept safe. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
Your PC
You hold the key and talk. The recording is sent over an encrypted connection.
Keeps: Your history, on your PC
voktik.com, London
Checks you're signed in and within your words, then passes it on.
Keeps: Counts only, never words
Speech service
Turns the recording into text and tidies it. Zero data retention is on for our account.
Keeps: Nothing
Back to your PC
The text is typed where your cursor is.
Keeps: Nothing on the way back
Your voice
- Each recording travels over an encrypted connection, with long silences trimmed out first.
- Our server doesn’t save the recording or the text. It passes them straight through and keeps only counts: how many words and seconds, never what you said.
- Our speech service doesn’t keep them either: zero data retention is switched on for our account. If it’s busy, the recording goes to another host under the same setting.
- Your voice is never used to train AI, by us or our speech service. We have no AI model of our own.
- We don’t use your voice to identify you.
What never leaves your PC
- Screenshots, or anything else on your screen. Voktik takes none.
- Your clipboard. Voktik borrows it to paste, then puts back what was there.
- Window and tab titles, and text from other apps.
- Your history, and your snippets’ saved text.
To use a style you’ve set for a website, Voktik reads the browser tab’s title on your PC. It’s never saved or sent.
On your PC
- Your history, dictionary, snippets and settings are kept on your PC, in your Windows user folder. You choose how long history is kept, or turn it off for chosen apps.
- A dictation that couldn’t be sent waits on your PC, encrypted with Windows’ own per-user encryption, until you retry it. It’s deleted once sent, and after 14 days at most.
- Your sign-in is held in Windows Credential Manager.
- Voktik never types into a password box.
Your account
- You sign in with Google, so there’s no Voktik password to leak.
- Sign-in tokens are stored on our server only as hashes.
- You can see every PC you’re signed in on, and sign any of them out, at voktik.com/account.
- Our secret keys, including the one for our speech service, stay on our server, never in the app.
- Our server and database are in London.
Payments
Stripe takes the payment on its own secure form. We never see your card details, and neither does the app.
The app itself
- The installer and the app are code-signed by NAP ECOM LTD, the company behind Voktik, so Windows can check they haven’t been changed.
- Updates are signed too, and Voktik checks the signature before it installs one.
