How to dictate Teams and Slack messages with Voktik.

To dictate a message in Microsoft Teams or Slack, click in the message box, hold Ctrl+Win, say your message, and let go. Voktik types it into the box, tidied, and leaves sending to you, unless you ask it to press Enter for you.

Dictate a chat message, step by step

1. Open the chat or channel and click in the message box.
2. Hold Ctrl+Win, say your message, and let go.
3. Read it, then press Enter to send.

It works in the Teams and Slack desktop apps, and in Teams, Slack and Google Chat in your browser.

Send it in one go

If you'd rather not press Enter each time:

• Hold Shift as you finish a dictation, and Voktik presses Enter after pasting, so the message goes.
• Or let Voktik always send in chosen apps. Open Settings > Dictation > Send for me in these apps, select Choose apps, and tick Teams and Slack. This never works in email apps.

Read your message before you use either. A misheard name in a team channel is more awkward than a typo.

A style for work chat

• Work chat (Pro). Short and clear, friendly but professional, and no slang. On Pro, the ready-made Work chat rule uses it in Teams, Slack and Google Chat, with nothing to set up.
• On the free plan, messages are tidied in your everyday style. You can also add a rule with a free style, such as Chat with a friend, which stays relaxed and leaves off the full stop at the end of a short message. Open Styles, select Add a rule, pick the style, tick Teams or Slack under Apps (or type ms-teams.exe or slack.exe), and select Add rule.

Names and team jargon

Add colleagues' names, product names and team terms to your Dictionary, free, so they come out right every time. To add one from a dictation, open History, select the misheard word, and add the right spelling.

Longer updates

For a stand-up update or a long reply, press Ctrl+Win+Space once and talk hands-free. Ctrl+Alt+P pauses if someone walks over. Press Ctrl+Win+Space again to finish.

Tips for dictating chat messages

• Keep it short. Say one thought, send, then the next.
• Use a snippet for things you type all the time, such as a meeting link. Three snippets are free; more is Pro.
• Pick a quiet moment. Your microphone hears the room as well as you.

FAQ

Will Voktik send the message by itself?

Only if you ask it to: hold Shift as you finish, or turn on Send for me in these apps for Teams or Slack. Otherwise it pastes the text and you press Enter.

Does it work in Teams in a browser?

Yes. Voktik types into any text box, and on Pro the Work chat rule recognises Teams, Slack and Google Chat from the browser tab's title.

Is the Work chat style free?

No, it's a Pro style. On the free plan your messages are still tidied, and you can set Chat with a friend, a free style, for Teams or Slack.

Does it work in WhatsApp and Discord too?
