How to dictate emails in Gmail on a PC with Voktik.

Last checked 1st October 2026

To dictate a Gmail email on a Windows PC, open Compose, click in the message, hold Ctrl+Win, say your email, and let go. Voktik types it straight into the compose box, tidied: ums and ers out, punctuation in, the greeting and sign-off on their own lines.

Dictate a Gmail email, step by step

  1. Open Gmail in your browser and select Compose, or open a reply.
  2. Click inside the message body.
  3. Hold Ctrl+Win, say your email, and let go.
  4. Read it once, then select Send yourself. Voktik never sends an email for you.

It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Arc.

For a longer email, press Ctrl+Win+Space once and talk with your hands free. Press Ctrl+Alt+P to pause if you're interrupted, and Ctrl+Win+Space again to finish.

A style for Gmail

Voktik knows you're in Gmail from the browser tab's title. It reads the title on your PC and never sends it anywhere.

  • On Pro, the ready-made Email rule uses the Professional email style in Gmail, with nothing to set up: clear paragraphs, no slang, and a casual "Hey" or "Cheers" made plain.
  • On the free plan, emails to Gmail still get a proper email layout. To use the free Friendly email style, open Styles, select Add a rule, choose Friendly email, type Gmail under Websites, and select Add rule.

A style never adds words you didn't say. It won't write a greeting or a sign-off for you.

Your sign-off as a snippet

Open Snippets and select Add snippet. Under When you say, type "my sign-off"; under Voktik types, your sign-off as you want it. Say "my sign-off" at the end of an email and it goes in exactly as saved. Three snippets are free; more is Pro.

Tips for dictated Gmail emails

  • Say the greeting, pause, then the body.
  • Say "new paragraph" where you want a break.
  • Talk the whole email through, then edit once.
  • Add names that come out wrong to your Dictionary, free.
  • Read it once before you press Send.
